 Ducks will not swim!!!!!
« Thread Started on Apr 14, 2008, 7:29pm »

I have two Pekin ducks and they are about 6 weeks old. I let them swim as ducklings, but now that they are outside and have a very nice pond they do not swim at all! In fact, they spend most of their time sitting in the same spot next to the pond. When I try to encourage them to swim (by putting them in the pond myself) they get out as fast as they can. Any ideas???

My Pekins have a childs swimming pool. They won't go in if it is too dirty and they rarely go in if they know I am watching them and if I put them in - they act like they hate the water. Leave them alone and they will do their thing when they get ready do

i have 2 muscovy ducklings and one of them doesn't like water too much either. he drinks it all day but doesn't play in it. my other duckling, however, LOVES water! so when bath time comes and duckie wants out quackers only gets out because duckie did. i bought quackers a bigger water dish yesterday and he is enjoying it very much! last night he ran a few laps around the childrens porta-crib that they live in, inside my room, and then jumped in the bigger water dish and took a bath while duckie just sat there and looked at him. it was the funniest thing i've ever seen.
some ducks just don't like water as much as others. i read that they don't need to swim in it, but they do need to bathe
